What are the dangers to pest control chemicals.

Types of Insects and Pests

Insect and pest control chemicals are typically used to control a variety of insects and other pests. The insects that are often targeted by these chemicals are ants, mosquitoes, fleas, spiders, flies and stinging insects like bees, wasps and hornets. Pest control chemicals can also be used to target rodents like mice and rats.

Types of Insect and Pest Control Chemicals

There are three common types of insect and pest control chemicals in use today. The common trait of all three chemicals is that they are designed to target the nervous system of various animals. Pest control chemicals are the result of nerve agents used during World War II, and their effects are similar in pests as what one would expect in a human when exposed to a nerve agent. Other pest control chemicals will cause internal hemorrhaging, cardiac arrest or kidney failure in rodents and insects.

Dangers to Pets

Flea drops would be considered a form of pesticide designed to kill fleas on dogs, cats and other small pets. Some animals will have side effects or outright allergies to flea drops. The effects are usually excessive drooling, restlessness or otherwise unusual behavior. Since all flea medicine is different, any unusual behavior following application should be closely monitored.

Dangers to Humans

Since pesticides are toxic to rodents and other mammals, it is possible that humans could suffer the same effects if a large enough quantity is ingested or absorbed. Numerous diseases have been linked to insect and pest control chemicals including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and a variety of cancers.

Keys to Safety

The most important part of keeping your family and your pets safe while using insect and pest control chemicals is by following the instructions for use printed on the product label. Keeping pets and children far away from the chemicals while in use will limit their exposure. If you are pregnant or ill, you should not use insect or pest control chemicals. Lastly, never use more of a chemical than necessary to avoid polluting your house, yard or the environment.

Temites are smarter then you think.

Here you have a video of  Termites entering a structure from a big mud tube. Soldiers and worker termites are seen in video. Soldier termites have a tear size head and golden brown. Workers are pure white and don't have mandibles.
Worker Termites are cleaning and gathering food through out the day. Soldiers protect and remove dead termites from the colony.
I recorded this and thought it was cool hope you enjoy. Calvin T CA-46167 PT

Odorus House ant.

Odorous House Ant

The odorous house ant is about 1/8" and dark brown in color. This ant is so named because when crushed, the workers give off a rotten coconut odor. These ants normally nest outdoors under items on the ground, within landscape mulch, beneath loose bark on trees, under ground cover, in potted plants and other suitable voids. They are often found invading and nesting in homes. Odorous house ants may develop huge colonies containing thousands of workers and numerous queens making this species very difficult to control.

Common called piss ant or black ant. Call Green Rain 817-429-7246
Carpenter Ant
This is among the largest of the ant family, measuring 1/4" to 1/2". Its color is usually dark black. It has a large head with strong mandibles (jaws) used for chewing. Carpenter ants may be seen infesting homes or buildings at any time of the year searching for food. Although they chew their way through wood they do not eat wood. Instead, they feed on a wide range of insects, plant materials and, occasionally, on household foodstuffs. They are of great concern to homeowners because of their ability to tunnel into wood to build their colonies. An infestation can cause serious structural damage if left unchecked.

German Roaches

German Roaches
Appearance & Size: German roaches are brown to dark brown in color. They have two distinct parallel bands running the length of their pronotum. The sexes can be distinguished by the more slender body of the male.Adults are approximately ½-inch in length.

Behavior: German roaches are the most widespread of all cockroaches in the United States. They complete their lifecycle in approximately 100 days, and they breed continuously (with many overlapping generations present at any one time). Under ideal conditions, it has been estimated that one female German roach can be the cause of a population explosion of over 1 million more German roaches.

Habitat: German roaches are commonly found in and around apartments, homes, supermarkets, and restaurants. They prefer areas near food, moisture, and warmth. The major factor limiting German cockroaches survival appears to be cold temperatures. Studies have shown that German cockroaches are unable to colonize and survive in homes without central heating in northern climates. However, in the warmer temperatures of Florida this roach flourishes. They can develop into large populations and live throughout the house, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. During the day, these roaches may be found hiding clustered behind baseboard molding, in cracks around cabinets, closets or pantries, and in and under stoves, refrigerators and dishwashers. When seen during the day in clusters, the population is large.

LIFE CYCLE: German cockroach females, unlike most other roaches, carry the egg capsule protruding from their abdomen until the eggs are ready to hatch. The case is then placed in a secluded location, with the nymphs emerging one to two days later. A female may produce four to six cases during her lifetime, each containing 30 to 40 eggs. Eggs hatch in 28 to 30 days, and nymphs develop in 40 to 125 days. Female roaches live about 200 days and males not as long. The roach produces more eggs and has more generations per year (three to four) than other roaches, and only a few individuals are needed to develop into troublesome infestations.

Medical and Economic Significance: German roaches often litter food or food products with their feces and defensive secretions. They also physically transport and often harbor pathogenic organisms, and in some cases may cause severe allergic reactions. In addition, some scientists suggest that German cockroach infestations may cause human psychological stress and that the stigma associated with infestations alters human behavior.

Not all spiders are bad

Spiders deserve their reputation as bloodthirsty critters. Up until now, all 40,000 species known to science seemed to eat by sucking the juices out of insects and other prey. But researchers have come across a spider that is a vegetarian, and is apparently the first example of a plant-eating spider.
Two scientists, working independently in Costa Rica and Mexico, noticed that the neotropical jumping spider feeds on acacia leaf tips. These yummy leaf tips are primarily eaten by ants, which in turn defend the plants from predators. But the spider, known as Bagheera kiplingi, has developed a taste for the leaf tips, too. The spider does occasionally eat ant larvae, but most of its calories come from its high-fiber vegetarian diet, according to a report in the journal Current Biology

GREEN PEST MANAGEMENT

Green Pest Management:
IT IS NOT ABOUT PESTICIDES. It is about the overall approach to pest management in a manner that reduces the
impact on the environment. Please note that there is NO “Green List” of pesticides offered in this resource – only a list
of trade names of Natural pesticides. Not all Natural pesticides necessarily fit into Green pest management. It is the
manner in which the product is applied that is of importance, and products such as enclosed insect bait stations may
be labeled as “green” even though the active ingredient is synthetic.
Green Pest Management” awaits a specific definition, and pest control industry leaders may be working to achieve
this. From the opinions of many pest management professionals there are clear similarities between “Green” pest
management and “Integrated” pest management. In the overall goal of reducing any negative impact on the
environment, while still managing pest problems that affect our customers, we must emphasize:
 Proper identification of the pest and understanding its biology and habits
 Habitat modification to remove conditions conducive to the pest presence
 Exclusion to prevent entry to structures
 Inspection and monitoring to verify the presence of the pest
 The use of non-chemical control measures where appropriate and effective
 The use of the least hazardous chemicals where appropriate and effective
Green Pest Management should also evaluate every other aspect of the business in the goal of lowering any negative
impact on the environment. This includes efficient use of vehicles to reduce gas usage, recycling of all containers and
other waste products if possible, good building maintenance for efficient energy use, and other areas not directly
related to the control of pests.
